Trump Invites Loved Ones of Attacked Guard Members to the White House
Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Tragic Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Vigils across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The president said he’s proposed a White House visit for the families of both members of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president told reporters. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees gathered over the past few days at a local school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist public safety in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that educators desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the head of her alma mater, told the media. “She was caring, caring and always eager to help others.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments
Officials have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and cease granting entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor the governor said on a news program.
Attorney general the attorney general told Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
