The Renowned Musician Urges Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign aims to provide aid to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it fails to, festive releases are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.
The diverse array of artists appearing on Lullaby encompasses a selection of well-known figures from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a considerable total for relief efforts.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a team of music creators. The song features a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The group managing the project have emphasized that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These resources will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a figure explained. “We will pursue as much as possible. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was described as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions won't make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The track is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from later in the month.
