The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
