The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
