The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought Champions League success and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed England's top flight last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would embrace the notion of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I declared I won't manage any other side in England. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I could make the decision in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about the specific conditions would need to occur to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he said. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments that won the league last term. They've been defeated four in a row in every contest post heavy investment, though he denied the notion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry over the club, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly about the death of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace such an individual? It goes beyond the player himself, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for his teammates also. Not a single person will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Dealing with that emotionally is challenging. Overwhelming.”
