Paceman Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Problems.

'Serious blow' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems upon exiting the field on the second morning in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson pulled up with his left leg post-delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

Team management stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time on the sidelines for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the series in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.

England have been without fast bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was added to the party to provide backup.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 with the bat as one of just three teammates to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he resumed the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of the fifth over, he delivered a variation to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test having missed the Adelaide game.
