Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared surveillance images Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in March and was anticipated to become a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
