Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a significant and continuing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Additional Developments

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
