Cameron Norrie earned the biggest victory of his professional journey by coming back from a set down to overcome world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

While he had earlier overcome Alcaraz on two separate matches, this triumph signifies Norrie's first ever win over a sitting world top-ranked player.

"Massive. So big for me," commented Norrie, who is now the fifth British man in the record books to overcome a world No 1. "Returning from a physical setback last year, I fell in the first round of qualifiers here. I just aimed to appreciate my performance in the closing months of the year. To achieve a victory like this, it's the greatest win of my tennis journey, my maiden triumph over the world No 1 and arguably the most confident competitor in the world right now."

Norrie, ranked 31st in the world, also ended Alcaraz's dominant streak of nine consecutive finals and 17 consecutive premier event successes, which marked the best series of results in the Spaniard's early professional path.

The top seed appeared to be moving confidently to success early on as he cruised in the first set. Yet, the British contender steadily worked himself into the match by delivering with greater precision and pulling the Spanish opponent into lengthy, grueling exchanges. His unceasing consistency and consistency gradually made an impact.

For much of the match, the world number one performed well on serve but he struggled badly to find his timing with his rally strokes.
