Antony Price, Famed for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, most notably the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
This news arrives just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.
After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

The industry laments the passing to a authentic original whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
